Wedding Story

Lindsey & Stephen

It was in Pennsylvania…they were in dental school and their smiles caught each others attention…Kind of like an Orbitz commercial. Well not really….it was more of Lindsey’s sister that planted the seed. Lindsey’s twin sister,Margo, was visiting from Seattle and noticed this guy walk by. She thought to herself ‘my sister should totally date him’. It wasn’t long before Stephen & Lindsey were in fact dating. I am sure a few things happened in between Margo’s thought and Lindsey actually accepting of Steve’s date but regardless they met and it happened.
Lindsey & Steve both graduated and Steve obligingly left his East Coast home and joined Lindsey and relocated to the Pacific NW. Lindsey, an Orthodontist, opened her own practice in Redmond and Stephen, a DDS practices in Seattle. Both successful professionals, that is only one of the many things that make them a good match.
When I first met with them they both had a soft demeanor and gentleness about them. After 8 years of dating they seemingly know each other well and each with their laid back nature fit together perfectly. I was honored when they asked me to photograph their wedding in Coupeville on Whidbey Island.
Coupeville is a place their families have cabins and enjoy some downtime. It holds a lot of memories and seemed like the best place to say their ‘I DO’s’.
Stephen hung out with the guys in the morning, driving golf balls off the back deck. Lindsey and her gals enjoyed girl time prepping in the cabin at the Captain Whidbey Inn. With her lucky ladybug placed on the night stand, her mom helped her slip into her Anthropologie dress, and her step mom assisted with earrings that have been in 5 weddings so far. Her mom gave her a handkerchief with the phrase ‘you are my sunshine‘ embroidered in it on one side and an ‘L’ on the other.
We left the venue to meet up with Stephen for their first look at the Pier in town. They have always enjoyed walking around the quaint town and especially the pier so it made the most sense for their first moments seeing each other. We later ventured to a few other areas around the venue and then joined the bridal party and family. I love this property there are so many awesome backdrops to photograph I could have spent all day with them.
The ceremony was casual and performed by Lindsey’s uncle. Most of the guests stood and everyone cheered as they kissed as husband and wife. They exited to the best mix of Washington weather…sunshine and rain at the same time, followed by a rainbow over the venue.
The evening progressed with heartfelt toasts and much love to the couple. Something that stuck out to me that I had never thought of was in Lindsey’s twin sisters’ speech. They have an older sister Heather, who in her life was an only child, then the oldest child…both Lindsey & Margo are neither only children, nor oldest, nor middle nor youngest…always known as ‘The Twins’. I find it fascinating how we get some of our identity from the birth order in our family and how their families birth order is even more unique. It was a story that made me simply say ‘Hmmm wow, never thought of it like that’. So Margo…thank you for sharing.
They opted to not have a cake but instead enjoy some yummy marionberry pie from a local story The Knead and Feed. As people drank champagne and ate pie they also began to dance, and danced the night away to a local band ‘Free Rain’. These two love each other and are loved by many. All you have to do is sit back and watch and it’s nothing but obvious.
Thank you for having us document your day…what a blessing you two are!
